2. News

– [0:03:13]: This Week in Esports

DLM MCS 37

  • 1st – Shaowz w/ FIRE Reload Invoked Neos: Axel Brodie has immediately brought a meta relevant skill, which is basically a free situational Reload. Anyways, Invoked is back in many different forms, and this one also includes 3x Winda for the deck thinning this deck excels at.
  • 2nd – haru w/ Sorcery Conduit Invoked Roid: The fat Invoked deck also is back in the meta here. 3x Winda, 3x Sangan have similar functions, while 3x Battlin’ Boxer Veil is part of the stall control this deck has.
  • Top 4 – Dmitri w/ Level Reduction Blackwing: This deck notably runs a previously unseen Blackwing in Tornado the Reverse Wind, also Heat Wave is back.
  • Top 4 – Memaker w/ FIRE Reload Invoked HERO: The possibilities are endless, this not only has the Neos Fusion package, but also incorporates Stratos and Heat.

Potato Cup #6

  • 1st – Saad w/ See You Later Lightsworn: Pure Chaos Lightsworn here, relying on the power of 3x Chaos Dragon Levianeer, with all the different ways of bringing them back.
  • 2nd – DARWIN w/ Destiny Draw Invoked Neos: This deck is a bit too variegated to be fully Invoked Neos, but why not. It includes Sinister Serpent, which is a curious choice, given that Coccytus has hit the Forbidden List.
  • Top 4 – Ghost w/ Spell Specialist Lightsworn Thunder Dragon: A messy Chaos deck that has Thunder Dragons, Lightsworns, Chaos cards, tech cards, everything.
  • Top 4 – Disconnected w/ FIRE Reload Invoked Neos: 3x Winda is becoming a staple in Invoked it seems.

DLM Weekly #155

  • 1st – Felipe w/ Balance Weather Painters: The deck is hovering right outside the tier list, and will only get better with better Rank 3 Xyz options brought to the game.
  • 2nd – Ryu Zane w/ Master of Destiny Desperado: Can this deck hold on in the tier list? This deck has a heavy Machine focus to help with type consistency in the cards, even running Blowback Dragon.
  • Top 4 – ChuChuMTFKR w/ Sorcery Conduit Invoked Roid: I suppose with all the different varieties of Invoked now, you can pick out the 30-carder as Roids.
  • Top 4 – famosowho w/ Balance Weather Painters: Yup, the deck is on the rise.

– [0:11:52]: Duel Links Meta Tier List Update

  • Tier 1: Desperado
  • Tier 2: Invoked Neos, Noble Knights, Ritual Beasts,
  • Tier 3: Blue-Eyes, Blackwings, Cyber Dragon, Witchcrafter
  • Off-List: Crystrons, Thunder Dragons

– [0:12:47]: Kite Tenjo

  • Number 10: Illuminknight (UR): This should be good enough to play, despite the cost to put it onto the board. Rank 4 Xyz summons requiring 3 Level 4 monsters generally compete with each other, and don’t have the leeway that monsters requiring 2 Xyz materials do. In any event, this card is useful for doing work in populating the GY with a desired card, and to draw a card. This ability could even be better than Switcheroo, as sending a card back to the deck results in less control than in the GY. Despite the lowish stats and cost of 3 monsters, this should prove useful enough. This could work well in a Chaos deck of some sorts, maybe using Tuners like Glow-Up Bulb or Jet Synchron, as well.
  • Photon Crusher (SR): Pretty basic Level 4 beatstick that comes with a downside. This is pretty much Goblin Attack Force with less attack, and the ability to shift back to attack sooner. We have vanilla monsters stronger than 2000 though.

– [0:17:56]: Leo and Luna’s Duel Carnival

  • Burning Skull Head (SR): Interesting set of cards we get here. This card is meant to be special summoned from the hand to inflict some burn damage. Then you can self-banish this card on the field to return a banished Skull Flame into the GY.
  • Skull Flame (UR): The intermediate piece here, who is a 2-tribute monster that helps you special summon the Burning Skull Heads from the hand. This card also comes with the ability to recycle a Burning Skull Head from the GY at the cost of your normal draw.
  • Supersonic Skull Flame (UR): Same stats as Skull Flame, but you special summon this by removing Skull Flame from the GY. This does a little bit of burn as well. When this is sent to the GY, you can resurrect Skull Flame from the GY. What does this all amount to? It seems like a whole lot of nothing! A lot of it is dependent on tribute summoning for Skull Flame to make it all work, and it is a fairly fragile combo that doesn’t do enough burn.

– [0:22:43]: Axel Brodie Skills

  • Volcanic Force: Similar to an Akiza skill called “Black Rose Gale,” the only thing this skill does is make the special summon of a monster into a Duel Skill effect, so that it cannot be disrupted by back row or a quick effect of some kind. Volcanic Doomfire is a strong card, but is all dependent on winning a battle, so you’ll need to take care of back row to make it all work.
  • Volcanic Burning Deck: Starter skill that fills your deck with cards you may not have. This skill can be avoided altogether if you just own these cards.
  • Reloading!: The only thing this really does is fill up the GY. You’ll have the potential to dump 4 cards into the GY with this. Filling things in the GY could be useful, so interesting if this works out. Of course, this is just with Volcanic monsters, and dependant upon having Blaze Accelerator, so that hurts meta GY strategies.
  • Maximum Firepower: Only useful in Fire Pyro-based decks. None of that is meta at the moment.
  • Fight on the Front Lines: A basic “field” buff without taking up a field spell slot. This is just fine if you have some effective Fire Pyro deck going for you.
  • Blaze Accelerator Reserve: Sure I guess? Blaze Accelerator is dependent upon ditching monsters in hand to activate, so this is pretty hard to make the Blaze Accelerator even work that turn.
  • Blaze Accelerator Recovery: A late game skill to refill your deck. Typically you won’t want to play catch up with your Duel Skill, especially one that doesn’t gain you any advantage right away. Ultimately too slow.
  • Blaze Accelerator Deployment: This skill is interesting, as it could save you a deck slot of having to run Tri-Blaze Accelerator, as this is transformative.
  • FIRE Reload: Currently defining the meta. Invoked decks are running Volcanic Shells and maybe other Fire Pyros for the chance to activate this. You basically reload your whole hand. Given Volcanic Shell already has a tutoring effect, this gives you a good shot at getting Invoked Purgatrio out quickly. A great catch up skill that brought Invoked back from the brief retirement.

– [0:31:38]: Tour Guide Bingo

  • Baby Tiragon: Rank 1 Xyz summoning probably will only ever be in a niche deck, especially with the need to swarm the board to get the Xyz summon off. The only way this would work is in some kind of combo where you need to power up the Level 1 monster that is attacking directly. Triangle Power is an example of such a card, which would attempt to get an OTK off with the direct attack. In the end, this is super gimmicky, and destined to fail, but will provide a nice moment when it rarely succeeds.

– [0:33:40]: Pick-a-Gift

  • Toon Goblin Attack Force: This card doesn’t really provide much, as stronger Toons can special summon cards that require tribute summons. This switching to 0 defense doesn’t really help either, but I guess hitting directly for 2300 is good enough for one shot.
