DLM Weekly #204

  • 1st – Narmer w/ Territory of the Sharks Water Xyz: The monster composition here is a little old school, but 3x Heavy Infantry could be new. All the quick plays are a powerful thing in any competitive meta these days.
  • 2nd – jjp1124 w/ Clock of Destiny Destiny HERO: This deck messes with the monster composition, notably just running 1x Decider.
  • Top 4 – Riqu w/ Harpies’ Hunting Ground Harpies: Nerfs are supposed to control a deck a little, and this deck shows that Harpies are still doing okay. Not having Swallow’s Nest means the deck plays a lot slower, so there are a good amount of control traps put here.
  • Top 4 – Negative1 w/ From Songstress to Maestra: If the last 2 decks aren’t an indication, Floodgate Trap Hole could very well be back in meta consideration. Given the nerf to Swallow’s Nest, that could be a decent move.

– [0:13:55] Duel Links Meta Power Rankings

  • Tier 1:
  • Tier 2: Destiny HERO (12.1), Magnet Warrior (9.7), Gaia (8.8)
  • Tier 3: Harpies (6.2), Melodious (6.1), Thunder Dragon (6.0), Noble Knights (4.9), Water Xyz (4.8)

– [0:14:48] Forbidden/Limited List Update (Dec 16)

`

Limited 2

  • Swallow’s Nest: This is the most meta-relevant limit, and it is the second nerf on Harpies recently. Elegant Egotist is a Limited 2, and Treacherous Trap Hole is as well, so TTH has effectively been taken out of Harpies. I cannot see you play Harpies without the 1:1 split on Elegant Egotist and Swallow’s Nest. Swallow’s Nest was the card that made Harpies good and flavorful, as they just dodged stuff, or had offensive burst. With this change, Harpies are shifting towards control traps.
  • Spellbook of the Master: This seems like a mostly innocuous thing, as Spellbook of Fate moves from Limited 2 to 3. This prevents Spellbooks from using good Limited 2 cards, but they never seemed to be that deck to begin with. I guess they could’ve run TTH.

Limited 3

  • Chaos Dragon Levianeer: This was one of the most effective cards, and promoted a lot of Chaos disposal play. This definitely is not an end to this card, as you can still safely run a deck with 3 of them. Thunder Dragons ran them, so that’s a nerf on them. Other decks that run Light and Dark can still safely use this card.
  • Thunder Dragondark: Not sure what number nerf this is to Thunder Dragons, but yeah another one here. So Chaos Dragon Levianeer and Battlin’ Boxer Veil share the Limited 3 with Dragondark.
  • Spellbook of Fate: A little entry for Spellbooks to come back into play. This Limited 3 shouldn’t affect other cards used in Spellbooks.

Unlimited

  • Gagaga Sister
  • Iron Core of Koa’ki Meiru

– [0:24:56] New Structure Deck EX, Cyber Style Extreme

  • Cyber Dragon Nova: The first non-fusion Extra Deck card for Cyber Dragon, as the deck is evolving into Xyz Summoning, and the Duel Skill Cyber Style Evolution. Cyber Style Evolution allows you to modulate the level of a monster to 5, so this greatly helps with Xyz Summoning. This card does a lot, allowing you to build an aggressive board with resurrecting Cyber Dragons. The quick effect +2100 attack is good for just winning battles or an OTK. Finally, this comes with destruction protection to swarm out another Machine Fusion in the Extra Deck, which could be any big beater you just throw in there, like Super Vehicroid.
  • Cyber Dragon Nachster: Similar to how Cyber Dragon Core served as the main worker in Cyber Style, this is the main worker for Cyber Style Evolution. This just works very well to resurrect a monster in the GY, and be modulated itself to Level 5 for that Rank 5 Xyz Summon.
  • Cyber Pharos: Cyber Style Evolution gives you a Power Bond, so this card helps you tutor Power Bond. This is a bit situational though, as you’ll want to fuse this card or dispose of it somehow, have your fusion destroyed by battle, to get that off. As this requires a bunch of steps, this is not worth running really.
  • Cyber Revsystem: This is a decent card you don’t need to run 3 copies of. Perfectly fine card just to get a Cyber Dragon that you want to play around card effect destruction. Of course whether someone is running Karma Cut vs Raigeki Break takes some thought, but against an archetype that will just destroy you, this is even better.

– [0:33:44] For the Sake of Family

  • Chronomaly Moai Carrier: As the name suggests, this card pairs with the Chronomaly Moai for Rank 5 Xyz Summons. Go 2nd, play Carrier, and play Moai.
  • Chronomaly Aztec Mask Golem: This is a situational Level 4 summon. The Chronomaly archetype does run some spells, so it is not too out of hand to not get this special summoned.
  • Orichalcum Chain: This is a decent skill actually. This is basically a free Xyz Summon just by having a Chronomaly monster. While the Xyz monster comes with fewer materials attached, this just being an undisruptable Xyz Summon is nice.

– [0:39:03] Mission Circuit

  • P.M. Captor: This card could be interesting for things to come, Zombies! The Pendulum Scale of 5 isn’t great, but I guess you can cheat out some lower level Zombies. They can’t be destroyed by battle or card effect, so that’s decent at least. The monster effect doesn’t seem really useful.
