– [0:04:03]: This Week in Esports

DLM Weekly #221

  • 1st – Davide Magri w/ Determination to Fight Gandora: New skill and new cards! The Determination to Fight skill basically requires you to run 10 Gadget monsters. The skill starts with you getting a free Gigarays Gandora the Dragon of Destruction or Gandora-X the Dragon of Demolition sent to the GY. Then you can return 1 hand to the deck and add a Gandora from the deck. Anyways this huge deck has a lot of packages: 2x new Gandora and 1x Old Gandora, 10x Gadgets, as per the deck building requirement, 2x Kiteroid with 2x Megaroid City, 3x Wightprincess as a hand trap, 3x Thunder Dragon, 3x Witch of the Black Forest, 3x Chaos Dragon Levianeer and 1x Melody.
  • 2nd – EndS w/ Determination to Fight Gandora: Basically the same deck as above with more hand traps. It replaces 1x Witch of the Black Forest and 1x Megaroid City for 2x Sphere Kuriboh.
  • Top 4 – Hiromonkey w/ Draw Sense: Low-Level Buster Dragon: Not much has changed since we last saw this deck. There is an added emphasis on flipping things face down with this deck, as evidenced by 3x Book of Moon, 2x Paleozoic Canadia and 1x Floodgate Trap Hole.
  • Top 4 – Yaytilla w/ Sealed Tombs Abyss Actor: Abyss Actor with Archfiend Eccentrick.

Duel Links Lounge Presents: Millennium Cup #36

  • 1st – SpookyBoogie w/ Draw Sense: Low-Level Buster Blader: The same theme as seen from the deck prior, with 6 cards that flip face down.
  • 2nd – Norention w/ Phantom Strategy Phantom Knights: This is a bit of a spicy deck as Kagemucha Knight is out of the deck entirely. This deck notably runs Monster Gate, a card last seen in decks that want to mill monsters.
  • Top 4 – Cris Oliver w/ Red-Eyes Roulette Red-Eyes: REBD is back w/ 2x BLS – Envoy of the Beginning as the Warrior for Red-Eyes Fusion. The added consistency of Red-Eyes Fang with Chain helps.
  • Top 4 – souji_ w/ Reload Shiranui: It seems Shiranui has dropped Draw Sense Dark in favor of Reload.

– [0:11:09] Duel Links Meta Power Rankings

  • Tier 1: Phantom Knights (33.2)
  • Tier 2: Buster Blader (7.5)
  • Tier 3: Harpies (6.1), Magnet Warriors (6.0), Abyss Actors (5.0)
  • Off List: Cyber Dragon

– [0:12:15] WCS 2022 Canceled Again

– [0:13:37] Bakura Level-Up Cards

  • Mask of Darkness: Not a new card, but you can play 3 copies now. Not really useful at all in Speed Duels, where the games end fast. Even Odion stall decks never really played this card. Now that you have 3 though, there could be some appeal in recycling your Drowning Mirror Force or other traps, but the monster itself  is made obsolete by some of Odion’s trap skills.
  • Dark Ruler Ha Des: This card we had access to 3 of before, and it never saw any play.
  • Zoma the Spirit (Max 2): This is a useful card in trap monster decks, if that is still a thing. An 1800/500 stat line makes it enough to be an offensive threat to be taken seriously, and can inflict some serious burn to the opponent when destroyed. Level 4 works as a versatile level to do some special summoning with as well, but I don’t think you can Xyz Summon with trap monsters.
  • Summoner’s Art (Max 2): Ok this might actually be good, as you can tutor for useful monsters like Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Dark Magician, Red-Eyes Black Dragon, Elemental HERO Neos, and maybe some more. This also works with newer Normal Pendulum monsters, like the Metalfoes, Igknight and Qli archetypes.

– [0:19:47] Bakura Exclusive Duel Skills

  • Building a Diorama: Not a great skill, as it is very situational on having ritual summoned a level 8 or higher monster. In exchange you get a field spell, which is something you could’ve done with Planet Pathfinder, without the whole deal.
  • Double Normal Summon: Not a bad skill honestly, as this has some appeal for 1-tribute summoning, or special summoning with Xyz or Pendulum. You are limited to Normal monsters though, so Xyz seems like the best usage for this skill.
  • Monster Encounter: This skill would’ve been interesting with some effect Fiend and Zombies, but this is limited to non-Effect monsters, so not really useful.
  • Occult Maniac: You don’t really know your percentages here, but assume this is like Heavy Starter. Potentially useful with Shiranui maybe, in a deck that just runs very few monsters and many traps.
  • White Magician’s Defensive Spell: This skill just debuffs enemy defense based on dice rolls, which is basically a useless skill, as nobody is stopped by high defenses.
  • White Magician’s Shining Shield: You want lower dice rolls here, but you’re just stalling for one turn based on a dice roll, not really playable.

– [0:29:50] Energy of Gigarays

  • Imperial Tombs of Necrovalley: Given we have GK Commandant, this is usually going to be a free negate and destroy counter trap.
  • Law of the Cosmos: An interesting test to see if people actually read cards!
  • Psychic Bounder: This helps tutor those Jinzo spells/traps.
  • Cyber Energy Shock: You’ll probably want to clear a monster with this card, as a quick play spell is useless. The bonuses are for traps as well, which makes it an awkward card.
  • Cosmos Channeling: This card is made for E-Con take plays.
  • Everlasting Alloy: This is a handy protection for a Jinzo deck, as you can chain this to monster or spell effects.
  • The Legendary Fisherman III: Are water decks back? This is an extremely strong card that requires you to run the original Legendary Fisherman, but you’ll need to get the whole Citadel Whale, SSA shenanigans back to make that playable.
  • Wightprince: This card has potential for mass disposal, sending 3 cards from the deck to the GY at once. That is quite strong.
  • Wightprincess: This card packs general hand trap usage, as you can debuff your opponent monsters to a good degree. Useful for any aggressive deck looking for a OTK, or just the Skull Servants.
