– [0:03:29]: This Week in Esports

DLM Weekly #216

  • 1st – Davide Magri w/ Sealed Tombs Abyss Actor: Almost a copy of the top deck of the recent KC Cup, pure Abyss Actor.
  • 2nd – Eduu16 w/ Phantom Strategy Phantom Knights: This deck notably doesn’t run Phantom Knights’ Sword, with generic back row instead.
  • Top 4 – yousefx1 w/ Cyber Style Evolution Cyber Dragon: What you would expect Cydra to look nowadays.
  • Top 4 – Serenity w/ From Songstress to Maestra Melodious:

– [0:07:02] Duel Links Meta Power Rankings – Now including Ranked

  • Tier 1: Phantom Knights (17.2)
  • Tier 2: Satellarknights (13.8), Harpies (10.1), Magnet Warrior (8.2)
  • Tier 3: Abyss Actors (5.0), Cyber Dragon (4.8), Water Xyz (4.3)
  • Off List: Ritual Beast, Buster Blader

– [0:08:24] The Unstoppable Love Train Anna Kaboom

  • Night Express Knight: The goal of this card is to be normal summoned, to which you can special summon Derricane from the hand, to do a Rank 10 Xyz Summon. Alternatively, you can play Machine Duplication to special summon these guys straight from the deck. In any way, this isn’t going to be a beater, unless you decide to run Forbidden Chalice to turn it into a 3400 for one turn! This should be considered a core piece for the Rank 10 Xyz summon.
  • Indestructible Aircraft Hindenkraft: This doesn’t seem great for the purposes of Rank 10 Xyz Summoning. The tokens could possibly come from Mecha Phantom Beasts, if there is some kind of synergy there. This does some interesting abilities to flip monsters to defense, and to turn their attacks to 0. But getting this card onto the board won’t be the easiest task.

– [0:13:25] New Main BOX, Maximum Gustav

URs

  • Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Gustav Max: This is the only Rank 10 Xyz of the Train archetype we have, and it is a good reason to even play the Trains. With Derricrane as a material, you’re basically playing Water Xyz with a bigger monster. The Trains don’t really run burn outside of this card though, so just count it as a 3000 beater with 2000 burn damage. Not the most impressive effects, but good enough to feature. Being the only Rank 10 Xyz around, at least it gives the deck space to run other levels.
  • Princess Cologne: While generic Rank 4 Xyz, this is more of a combo card with Box of Friends for some normal monster synergy. The monsters that come out are level 4 as well, so they can come out of the deck quickly to get off some generic Rank 4 Xyz summons. Consider other normal monster synergy cards in Order to Charge, Painful Decision, Unexpected Dai, etc.
  • Metaphys Horus: While under the Metaphys archetype, this is just a Generic Level 6 Synchro. This has some nice effects, especially if a Pendulum Monster is employed. This card is good enough to see immediate Extra Deck usage, if there is a deck that can accommodate.
  • Meteor Black Comet Dragon: There’s some Red-Eyes support in this BOX in burn form, and this is a big burner. This is very strong, a deck disposal ability that is basically Red-Eyes Insight consistency for burn. Of course, you’ll need to throw in Level 6 guys here, but that could just make new flavors of stronger Red-Eyes decks.
  • Metalfoes Mithrilium: This Psychic archetype merges Pendulum and Fusion, so that’s interesting. They don’t seem to have a dedicated fusion card, but that’s just extra. This monster has recycle and control abilities, and you’ll have at least 2 cards in the GY used for the fusion, so it is almost guaranteed removal, or forced back row usage. This monster also has some stickiness, being able put a Pendulum on the field when sent to the GY.
  • Heavy Freight Train Derricrane: The core piece for Rank 10 Xyz Summons into Gustav Max. This special summons from the hand with any Earth Machine play, so there is synergy with Trains, Inifinitrack, and Machina. Infinitrack Harvester can turn this into a Rank 12 Xyz play, if that ever becomes relevant. Pegasus has flexibility in turning this into Rank 4 or 10 Xyz. This card when detached as Xyz material, functions like an Atlantean detach, so this plays like Water Xyz.
  • Metalfoes Goldriver: I guess this is a core card, but nothing blows you away. Level 4, 1900 attack, Pendulum Scale of 1. The Pendulum effect lets you destroy a face-up to set a spell/trap from the deck, a fairly strong ability. Is there synergy in destroying your own Fire monsters?
  • Box of Friends: This needs to get destroyed to set up a Rank 4 Xyz summon, or whatever you plan to do with the normal monsters. If anything, this deck archetype thins the deck really well.
  • Red-Eyes Fang with Chain: Reprint card, and making it available should strengthen Red-Eyes quite decently. Good enough to be a core card.

SRs

  • Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon: Another reprint becoming a core card for Red-Eyes. One should believe Red-Eyes will be meta-relevant with this support.
  • Fullmetalfoes Alkahest: Really good! This is an excellent Turn 1 disruptor against the opponent board to steal enemy monsters. This quick effect can activate before your opponent can activate trigger effects. The stolen monster is essentially destroyed without going to the GY. These monsters do utilize Pendulums, so consider running a legendary duelist from Arc-V for the board space.
  • Nekroz of Trishula: Nekroz hasn’t been meta despite some recent card additions. This card’s ritual summon will banish 3 opponent cards, which is quite strong. Not sure if it is enough to make the archetype relevant though.
  • Demise, Supreme King of Armageddon: Ruin and Demise work as this boom and bust ritual archetype. This card can effectively end the game in one turn, which is a plus. Combo this with something like Forbidden Lance.
  • Super Express Bullet Train: Another part of the Rank 10 Xyz Train play, as this is a free special summon, so as long as you have an Earth Machine. This has an added recycle as well. This card won’t be relied on for attacking, but for the Rank 10 Xyz. Also synergy with Infinitrack Harvester and Pegasus.
  • Flying Pegasus Railroad Stampede: This has versatility with any Earth Machine, opening up more ranks for Xyz summoning. The Infinitracks and Machina monsters are in consideration, and a whole lot of ranks are opened up as a result.
  • Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands: Okay, basically every Ritual deck gets an upgrade. People have been clamoring for this card forever.
  • Fiendish Rhino Warrior: General Fiend support, and this card can basically stay on the board by letting you toss Fiends from the deck. This is probably best in Burning Abyss, given being Level 3. This could also be support for things like Fabled or Dark World perhaps.
  • Metalfoes Steelen: Basically the other Pendulum Scale end with Goldriver, this lacks the attack value, but otherwise the same card.
  • Soul Taker: This is probably best in a burn cure deck, but otherwise generic removal. I don’t think typically have quick removal like this. Herald of the Abyss could be a better option in Duel Links, generally.
  • Metaphys Ascension: Nothing sexy here, but this facilitates cards for Metaphys, which is all they really need. This is a sneaky card that could allow the archetype to do pretty well.

– [0:41:46] Mission Circuit

  • Lady Panther: We got Crimson Sentry last week, so here’s an upgraded version of that card. A little better than Crimson Sentry, as you’ll draw the desired monster in the next turn. You’re still giving up the board position by sacrificing this monster, so not great in this format overall. Still, you can dig up that Amazoness Swordswoman for the next turn.
